Chicano Rock legend Richard Bean comes from unique lineage and was destined for fame. Sapo was formed by Bean in the mid-’70s after his days as a timbale player with Malo came to an end. Having written “Suavecito” (which he’s often heard referred to as “the Mexican national anthem”) and numerous other songs, Bean was looking for more of a front man role. Bean has maintained a visible touring presence for more than 30 years, still playing shows alongside the likes of Carlos and Jorge Santana, and other prominent figures on Bay Area Latin rock lore. Pittsburg’s very own Natural Blend band featuring Alfred Silva. Natural Blend has played together for 17 years. The exhibit is titled “Alone” opening on Saturday, May 18 at 4 p.m. in one of Downtown Redwood City’s Courthouse Square Kiosks. The opening reception will reveal the newest interactive art exhibit that the community can engage with as part of the rotating art installation project. “Alone” is a site-specific photo based installation that will transform the Art Kiosk into a giant camera obscura for viewers to walk into and experience real time city happenings and actions. The glass facades will showcase four giant photographs of Redwood City locations and the surrounding area taken by Boban in 2019. “Alone” will be on display through June 23. In partnership with Fung Collaboratives, the rotating Art Kiosk Installations will continue throughout 2019 with different featured artists in an effort to enhance the community’s fine art scene for residents and visitors.
