An Evening with PAULA POUNDSTONE
An Evening with PAULA POUNDSTONE Start Date: Saturday 5/11/2019 — End Date: Saturday 5/11/2019 Admission:From $34.50 to $74.50 Another laugh-filled evening of great fun with the star of NPR’s Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me, and one of the funniest stand-up comics working today. Paula Poundstone returns to the Osher Marin JCC on Saturday May 11, 2019 @ 8pm. The evening offers the incredible opportunity to experience the magic and hilarity of Paula Poundstone in the intimate 500 seat Hoytt Theater rather than her usual 2000 seated venues. A rare opportunity, this special evening is co-presented by the Other Café Comedy Showcase and The Kanbar Center for the Performing Arts at the Osher Marin JCC. Paula Poundstone is one of our country’s preeminent comedians, known for her smart, observational humor and spontaneous wit that has become the stuff of legend. She tours regularly performing over 85 shows a year. Her new weekly podcast for Maximum Fun, Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone, is a comedy field guide to life. Each week Paula and her co-host, Adam Felber, a friend and fellow panelist on Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! bring on leading expert guests and use their unique comedic sensibility to help us navigate life in the 21st century. Along the way, Paula attempts to explain existence through her kaleidoscopic perspective, and Adam tries to interject some rationality. On stage, Poundstone is known for her casual style, smart, observational humor, and a razor sharp spontaneous wit that has become the stuff of legend. Her performances leave folks marveling at her ability to interact with the audience, and the resulting hilarity. Little wonder people leave her shows complaining that their cheeks hurt from laughter, and debating whether the random people she talked to are “plants” – which of course, they never are. KRONOS QUARTET
KRONOS QUARTET Start Date: Saturday 5/4/2019 — End Date: Saturday 5/4/2019 Admission:$22 – $40 For 45 years, San Francisco’s Kronos Quartet – David Harrington (violin), John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola), and Sunny Yang (cello) – has combined a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to continually reimagine the string quartet experience. In the process, Kronos has become one of the world’s most celebrated and influential ensembles, performing thousands of concerts, releasing more than 60 recordings, collaborating with an eclectic mix of composers and performers, and commissioning over 1000 works and arrangements for string quartet. A jewel in the Bay Area’s crown of creativity and music, Kronos has gained respect and notoriety internationally. It is no wonder that the Los Angeles Times writes ‘The quartet remains as geographically, politically and spiritually feisty as ever. Forget about genre; Kronos made that an irrelevant term ages ago.” They have won over 40 awards, including the prestigious Polar Music and Avery Fisher Prizes and, most recently, the WOMEX Artist Award (the first US-based musicians to ever do so). The nonprofit Kronos Performing Arts Association manages all aspects of Kronos’ work, including the commissioning of new works, concert tours and home season performances, education programs, and a self-produced Kronos Festival. In 2015, Kronos launched Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire, an education and legacy project that is commissioning—and distributing for free—the first learning library of contemporary repertoire for string quartet. The Kanbar Center for the Performing Arts is proud to present this creative, prestigious, amazingly talented quartet, and invite the community to experience Kronos Quartet for themselves in the our own Hoytt Theater. ‘The Kronos Quartet elevated a concert of music to a spiritual trip through our common humanity – it was universal, all-encompassing, fabulously inclusive.” – The Globe and Mail WHAT: A unique and contemporary string quartet experience SEATING: Reserved Table & General Admission Choices TICKETS: $22 – $40 Available at marinjcc.org/arts WHEN: Sat.
